The Royal is one of Canada’s foremost mental health care, teaching and research hospitals. Our mandate is simple: to help more people living with mental illness and addiction into recovery faster.
The Royal’s primary role is to serve people 16 and older living with complex and persistent mental illness. For most of their programs, patients in need of the highly specialized care they provide are referred by physicians or nurse practitioners in our community.
Their service areas - which help 3,000 youth every month get from where they are to where they want to be, include Youth Engagement, Mental Health Services, Community & Housing Services, Employment Services, and Youth Justice Services throughout 21 locations across Ottawa. Their crisis line is open 24/7 for anyone to call for help with any situation, emergency or not, and their live crisis chat is also available anytime.
Accredited since 2013, Kids Help Phone is Canada’s only 24/7 e-mental health service offering free, confidential support to young people in English and French. They provide a safe and trusted place for young people in any moment of crisis or need.
