The Value of Thankfulness
I think it's important to say, "Thank you." Here goes!
I love being a military photographer. There's nothing I could ever imagine suiting me more than doing what I do in the position that I'm in. I've traveled all over the world and been reminded time and again of just how much I have to be thankful for. I'm truly blessed beyond measure to have had the opportunities that I've had, and I want to take a moment to say that it's not lost on me.
Last night I was honoured to have been invited to attend the Canadian Armed Forces Photography Contest dinner and gala. My wife and I touched base and rubbed elbows with some amazing photographers, and met some phenomenal and inspiring people. I was also awarded the Vice Chief of the Defence Staff Award and had a few other photos place. I've won awards before, but I don't know that I'll ever receive an award again that will mean as much to me as that did, and I want to take some time out and say thank you to a few important people who I would never have been able to achieve what I have achieved without.
Firstly my amazing wife Whitney. I love you more than words. You keep my world spinning in the right direction both when I'm home and when I'm deployed. You're the greatest blessing in my life, and I thank the Lord for you daily. Next are my two mini-muses, my sons William and Luke. You're my inspiration and my drive in everything I accomplish. Thank you for teaching me every day what life is about, and more importantly, thank you for loving me. To my family and friends, and in particular my family who are my friends (I'm looking at you on this one, Mom...), I don't deserve you, and I couldn't live without you. Thank you for all that each of you do. And finally, to my awesome team downtown Ottawa at 110, the DAPA crew: Thank each and every one of you for everything you do. I had no intention of even entering this contest until I was ordered to, so I definitely owe you thanks for this one. I appreciate the faith you extend to me every time you send me to all corners of God's green Earth trusting in my instincts and my abilities to get the job done, and to represent us well. THANK YOU!
Side note: the VCDS is an awesome guy to talk to, with a totally hilarious sense of humour.
